You Can Explore the Actual Lumon Building Featured in Severance

It’s less than a one-hour drive from New York City.

Your outie loves a good adventure. Your outie avoids middle seats like the plague. Your outie silently judges anyone who takes their shoes off on a flight. And now, your outie would probably love to know that you can actually visit the real-life building that stands in for Lumon Industries — and it’s not far if you’re near New York City.

If you’re reading this, you probably already know what an “outie” is. But if you haven’t jumped on the Severance bandwagon yet (seriously, what are you waiting for?), here’s the quick version: the show’s characters have their minds split into two distinct identities — one who lives their everyday life (the outie) and one who only exists at work (the innie).

The company behind this unsettling setup is Lumon, a shadowy corporate giant whose offices are a maze of sterile hallways and eerie fluorescent lighting. And if you’re a die-hard fan, you can actually check out that very building in real life by making a trip to New Jersey.

The building, known as Bell Works, sits in Holmdel, New Jersey. Once home to Bell Labs — the research hub for AT&T — this architectural gem was designed by Eero Saarinen and first opened its doors in 1962. Scientists inside worked on groundbreaking innovations, from microwave technology to the first cell phones. After being left empty in 2007, the space was brought back to life in 2013 by developer Ralph Zucker, transforming it into a buzzing business hub.

Today, Bell Works houses a mix of offices, shops, and restaurants — but its biggest claim to fame might just be its Severance connection. Its sleek lobby and outdoor spaces were transformed into the cold, unsettling face of Lumon Industries.

Bell Works has had its share of screen time before Severance, appearing in shows like American Horror Story and Emergence. But nothing has drawn in visitors quite like Severance fans, who can’t resist stopping by for a selfie or two. According to Zucker, their social media team is flooded with posts from fans making the pilgrimage.

That said, there’s something important to note: there’s no official Severance tour at Bell Works. It’s still a functioning workplace, so visitors should be mindful of people who are actually trying to get work done. The upper floors are off-limits (even for fans who’d love a peek at MDR), so your best bet is to snap some photos outside or in the public lobby.

“In reality, the building is buzzing with life,” Zucker explained — a far cry from the sterile, lifeless halls we see on the show.

So if your outie’s looking for something to do this weekend, consider taking a quick trip to Holmdel. You might not find Kier Eagan’s secrets, but you’ll definitely find some excellent photo ops.
